The Rose of Allendale
I am not sure where this picture was taken but the combination of the rainbow, roses and euonymus appealed to me. The Rose of Allendale is a popular English song written by Charles Jeffreys and Sidney Nelson. They also wrote Mary of Argyle. One commentator suggested that this was a song of a sailor longing for his sweetheart left behind. It is also possible, and in my mind likely, that Mary had joined him as his wife on board his warship. I know you never see women on warships, or on the battlefield, in the movies. However, it is true that many women joined their husbands on board warships and in the field.
