Farewell to the Creeks: Fareweel Ye Banks o' Sicily
Farewell to the Creeks is a lively march. Hamish Henderson (1919-2002) used the melody for his 51st (Highland) Division's Farewell to Sicily. This poem is more humourous and less bitter than The D-Day Dodgers, which is set to the melodyof Lili Marlene. However, marching across Sicily, in its blazing heat of July and August, must have been very difficult. This arrangement is dedicated to the soldiers who landed in Sicily in July, 1943, moved to mainland Italy in September, 1943 and fought on, largely forgotten, until May, 1945.
