Duncan Gray
A sprig of white heather is often included in bridal bouquets in Scotland for good luck. Maggie is lucky in this song. Duncan Gray courts her, but she will have none of him. However, when she gets sick, Duncan, "a lad o' grace," comes back to her, despite her refusal. They live happily ever after. The repeated line "Ha, ha the wooin' o't" should always be sung with gusto. I prefer the old version about Duncan and Maggie, not the one by Robert Burns.
